LinkedIn started it's mission as a way for professionals to network with each other, provide introductions, and add value to each other and they have been doing a great job of it since their launch in 2003. With a recent count of more than 35 million users (and growing) they are a network that is essential to have to experience success online.
LinkedIn is decidedly different than most social networking websites, in fact, they are classified mainly as professional networking as they focus on business needs. You won't find photo sharing or games on LinkedIn, it's business people helping business people.
Why even use LinkedIn for real estate?
LinkedIn provides a very different user experience than some of the other large networks like Facebook or Plaxo. When you build a network within LinkedIn it has the potential to be one of your strongest networks because of how you build your network.
With LinkedIn the focus is on connecting with people that you have worked with in the past and getting introduced to people you would like to meet by others in your network. Although it may seem like your network grows slower it gives you the opportunity to truly know each and every person that you connect with. This strong connection to each person will allow you to provide value and get results from those in your network.

Recommendations - Recommendations on LinkedIn are similar to the commonly referred "Testimonial". LinkedIn takes the concept a bit further though in that you must request a recommendation from a fellow member of LinkedIn and that persons profile will be associated with the recommendation. This eliminates the doubt of many testimonials online, in fact, it's so specific, we call it an "Authenticated Testimonial". Building up a profile rich in recommendations will have people eager to use your services.

Groups- Groups have a wide variety of uses in LinkedIn, but one of the most powerful features of groups is the ability to network and share your thoughts with those in the groups. Some groups are incredibly active and help each find jobs and for real estate professionals there are many that share referrals every week! Find the right group to connect with, join the conversation, and add value!

Answers - One of the easiest ways to get involved with the activity on LinkedIn is by answering questions. Anyone can pose a question to the network and then those on LinkedIn can provide answers. This is a way you can demonstrate your value and make new connections quickly.
