Social Networking with Twitter

TwitterTwitter is one of the fastest growing social networks. It's simple interface has puzzled many people who start, after all, with so features how can you actually get it to do anything? As real estate professionals we already have 100's of things to do each and every day, why add one more thing to do?

As many people jump onto Twitter, there are many accounts that go unused. People sign up and don't know what to do or even worse they spend hours using it and get absolutely no results!

Why even use Twitter for real estate?

The ease of Twitter will allow you to easily update those in your social network with valuable information. With just 140 characters in an update (tweet) it may sound difficult to add value, but it actually makes it easier because you don't have any room to waste.

You don't have to just do updates through Twitter as it allows to connect it with popular networks like Facebook which will extend your reach even further. There is much more to Twitter than just doing updates, but should you jump on, here are 3 simple rules to follow when you are sending out your Tweets.

  1. Always add value - Too many people are creating updates that are a TOTAL waste of time. The reality is that no one really wants to read "having lunch" or "thinking about getting a coffee". Getting results from your social networking efforts means taking time to consider the needs of your network. When you send out an update think about who in your network would find the update useful.

  2. Share valuable links - With Twitter you can easily share links in your updates. These links could be a website, articles, or even blogs that you have found helpful. Don't always link to your website or your network will get used to NOT following your links.

  3. Start slow - You can get consumed in doing updates (some people are doing more than 30 a day) but pace yourself and start with just a few each day. Even starting with just one a day will get you in the conversation with those in your network.

With the simplicity of Twitter you can waste time or make it productive, it's up to you! Take time to discover more about social networking for real estate and get our FREE checklist below. It's filled with 10 items you need to complete on Twitter and the other major social networks.
